Circular Khadi
The focus of this Research & Development project is to incorporate circular economy principles into the handcrafted (khadi) fabric sector.
This collaborative project between Conserve India, Where Does It Come From?, Khadi London and Khamir addresses the growing textile waste problem in India by recycling handloom cotton waste fabrics and yarns and integrating them into the khadi (handspun, handwoven fabric) value chain. The pilot places emphasis on leveraging production using small scale machinery and promoting environmental conservation and social uplift in rural areas.
Circular Khadi is supported by the British Council and Fashion, Textile, Technology Institute (University of Arts London) as part of the New Landscapes India: Fashion, Textiles and Technology Research & Development Grant Scheme.
